JCRC Statement on Misguided BDS Resolution at Georgetown University

JCRC Statement

The following is a statement from Rachel Feinstein, Director of DC Government and Community Relations for the Jewish Community Relations Council of Greater Washington.

“No student on any college campus should feel threatened or intimidated because of their identity or faith. It is sad and shameful to see members of Georgetown University’s student government so blatantly disregard that principle with respect to Georgetown’s Jewish community. The “BDS” resolution being pushed by student government leaders is built on a foundation of untruths and rhetoric that would serve only to further ostracize Jewish students, faculty, and staff on campus while doing nothing to promote peace between Israelis and Palestinians.

It is telling, though not surprising, that supporters of this deeply misguided resolution held an initial vote in secret, deliberately voted to overrule governance rules to rush the provision to the student body, and originally scheduled the schoolwide vote over Passover when many Jewish students would be home with their families. We strongly urge Georgetown’s campus community to see this resolution for what it really is—antisemitism masquerading as social justice— and for students to demand real leadership from a government that right now is failing to act in their best interests.”
